CROP AVAILABLITY
BLUEBERRIES are available as U-Pick and We-Pick only during the spring harvest of April and May.
ELDERBERRIES are harvested during the Spring and Summer months and are available frozen as long as the supply last.
VEGETABLES are available, as fresh picked only (NO U-Pick), starting in the Spring till the first freeze.
** Starting in 2009 some Winter crops will be available.

CROPS plantings will be according to their type, species, season and the weather patterns. Some of the crops that we have planted in the past and plan on planting in the furture are:
BEANS- Provider (green snap), Maxible Harcot Vert. (green gourmet),Royal Burgundy (purple shell/snap), Fordhook (lima), Jacob's Cattle (dry shell) and Black Turtle (dry shell).
BROCCOLI- Belstar.
CABBAGE- Matsuma (green) and Red Express (red).
CARROTS- Scarlet Nantes (red/orange), Intercptor (orange), Cosmic Purple (purple), and Snow White (white).
CORN- Vision (yellow), Luscious (bi-color ) and Suger Pearl (white).
EGGPLANT- Black Beauty (black), Rosa Bianca (pink Italian) and Snowy (white).
GREENS- Collards (vates), Lettuce (simpson), Lettuce Mix (mesclum mix), Mustard (southern curled), Spinich (regiment) and Turnips (purple top).
LEEKS- Bandit.
OKRA- Clemson Spineless, Burmese and Burgundy (red).
ONIONS- Parade (white bunching) and Red Baron (red bunching).
PEANUTS- Tenn. Red Valencia and Virgina Jumbo
PEAS- Blackeyes (shell/snap), White Acre (shell/snap) and Rattlesnake (dry shell)

The USDA Organic program requires us, with few exceptions, to use ONLY certified organic seeds in our farming program. If you do not see something that you would like please give us a call as we are regulary updating and changing our crop selections.

NON ORGANIC CONVENTUALLY GROWN UNGASSED TOMATOES
Long gone are the days of true vine-ripes. Most tomatoes harvested commercially today are picked as pinks or greens inorder to reduce brusing.The tomatoes are then cooled and await shipping orders. When the shipping orders arrive the tomatoes are then placed in a Gassing chamber or placed under a tarp where they are exposed to an agent that turns the tomatoes ripe looking only on the outside leaving the interior green. I think that we have all shared the experence of biting into what we thought was a good ripe tomato only to find that we now have something that I would not feed to the dog.
BBFI now has a supplier of UNGASSED tomatoes. These tomatoes are ripened using only temperature differentuals, the way nature does it, that allow the tomatoes to ripen over a much longer time and to ripen from the INSIDE-OUT. They can usually be obtained as mostly all ripe for those that like to can or freeze salsa, paste, sauce or chopped tomatoes all at once. They can also be obtained as a mixed box which allows you to eat fresh tomatoes over a 3-4 week period WITHOUT putting them in the refrigerator.
They are available by pre order only and it takes usually one to two day to fill an order. They only come in 25lb. boxes with a 2 box min. If 50lb. of tomatoes seems like a lot remember that at these prices you can give tomatoes away to friends and still come out ahead.
They are priced as vine-ripes in the stores for 1.99-2.99/lb. We usually have them for only $15/25lb. box which makes them 0.60/lb.
